§ 20.12.020. Streets—Future street dedication required when.

    When the planning commission shall have determined that a street is necessary for the future subdivision of property shown on the subdivision map or for the future subdivision of adjoining property or that such street is necessary to the public safety or convenience, but that the immediate dedication or improvement of such street is not warranted, the planning commission may require that such future street be shown on the final map and that such street be dedicated for public purposes. No improvement of a future street shall be required until the governing body shall have accepted it as public street. The owners of lots abutting on a future street may use such street for any and all ordinary uses of land except the erection, construction or moving on of buildings thereon, until such future street is accepted for street purposes.

    B.

    When the planning commission shall have determined that an additional width of any street shown on the final map may be necessary for future street purposes, but that such additional width is not immediately warranted, such additional width as the planning commission may require, or such additional width which is required by a plan of streets and highways, shall be shown as a future street, subject to the provisions of this section.
