§ 6.16.060. Dogs—Payment of charges prerequisite to reclamation.

  • The owner of an impounded dog may reclaim the dog upon payment of the following fees and penalties:

    A.

    If the dog is licensed and the license tag has been lost, the same shall be replaced at the expense of the owner.

    B.

    If the dog is unlicensed, its release shall be conditioned upon the delivery of a certificate of vaccination to the poundmaster and the payment of a license fee, whereupon the owner shall be entitled to a license and numbered tags.

    C.

    If the dog is unvaccinated, the owner shall be required to prepay the license fee and shall then take the dog to be vaccinated. If a certificate of vaccination is not delivered to the poundmaster within ten days after the dog's release, the license shall be null and void and the license fee forfeited.

    D.

    If any impounded animal receives veterinary care while in the custody of the city poundmaster, such animal may be released only after the costs of such care have been paid.

    E.

    In addition to the license fees referred to above, the owner of an impounded dog shall pay such fees and penalties for impoundment services as may be established by resolution of the city council.
