§ 2.16.050. Appointment and election of officers—Terms.

  • A.

    The fire marshal shall be appointed by the fire board with the approval of the city council and serve at the will of the council.

    B.

    The fire chief, first assistant fire chief, second assistant fire chief and third assistant fire chief shall be elected by the fire department and approved by the fire board and the city council prior to taking office. The term of office for each such officer shall be until they resign, or are removed by the city council, fire board, or removed by the fire department in accordance with the laws of the fire department.

    C.

    A list of desirable qualifications of a fire marshal includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    1.

    Minimum of at least ten years of fire service experience;

    2.

    Fire science degree desirable;

    3.

    Minimum of three years command experience;

    4.

    Instructional qualifications or certification desired;

    5.

    Must become a resident of Churchill County within ninety days of hiring;

    6.

    Should be able to communicate well with people;

    7.

    Medical and SIIS investigation;

    8.

    Arson investigation experience;

    9.

    Should be familiar with commercial and residential construction plans.

    D.

    A list of the minimum qualifications of a fire chief is as follows:

    1.

    Must have been an active member of the F.V.F.D. for at least ten years;

    2.

    Must be duly elected by a majority of active members of the F.V.F.D.
